Through advanced imaging tools, the environments we live in, objects we interact with and natural phenomena we observe are digitized, scanned and archived. In these massive datasets driven by capital, original intended objectives of information are lost; data becomes mere pattern where its quantity takes priority over its meaning. By creating an experiential environment from big data artifacts, “RAW” aims to call into question the interchangeability of experience and representation in the world of simulation and the vernacular of the digital. Consisting of a mesh reconstruction of a CAT scan of human heart through a procedural modeling operation, “RAW” aims to explore the scalelessness of digital form and experience within the context of big data. Through a radical decontextualization of information, “RAW” repurposes a form of unfiltered data in an experiential plane it is not intended for, while veering away from abstraction toward fidelity as its primary design methodology.
