hoX is a design studio with a mission to accelerate new transmutations between the disciplines of architecture, cinema, and videogame development. The studio leverages alternate forms of representation to foster, disrupt, and invert our relationships with our surrounding world. Each project developed advances a thesis of how the objects we design may construct alternate worlds within our own.

Off Kilter Kaiju is an object which speculates alternate spatial organizations within horizonless worlds. In digital platforms, orientation is speculative at best. The simple question of whether Y is up or Z is up is constantly changing as we swap between software. Rather than leveraging external gravities, the object leverages multidirectional toy-like joints to produce off-kilter rotations. In this use of odd joints, the project attempts to negotiate multiple horizons/realities into one entity. These joints allow for the locking and twisting of unlike forms (kaiju) into one figure. Over scaled toy-like joints make detailed connections between unlike figures and forms. At some points, sectional and spatial organizations leak from deep joints to the exterior. Off Kilter Kaiju speculates new forms of joinery between alternate realities into one form, experimenting with our perception of spatial transformations.
